Tips on Successful Student’s Preparation for Finals. Part 2

Testing

Review the Whole Material

We know that it will be difficult for you to rest and do nothing the last days before the exams and that you will tend to review everything until the last minute (even though it is not advisable!). If you want to revise your study notes from classes and textbook, try to choose a global approach. Review all concepts. You can also create mind maps for different paragraphs to summarize all information in your mind and to build strong connections between the facts. If you have any unfinished tasks, simply make a request "write my essay", and professional writers will save you from this problem at such a crucial moment.

Test Yourself

Take some time during your revisions to test yourself. You can even organize a study group where everyone will be asked to explain some part of the material. If it seems to you that this is a waste of time, then you are very much mistaken. This practice can be called situational modeling. You model if not the atmosphere then at least the content of the upcoming event, which is most important. If you practice answering at home, then the chance that your confidence will be much higher increases, since you do it not for the first time.

Having good ideas and mastering an answer is good, knowing how to organize your ideas to show your professors that you definitely have the answer is better. Writing can play tricks on you, that is why it is advisable to practice in advance. For an oral exam train yourself to provide an answer without any troubles.

If you have problems with oral speech or you feel insecure when you speak to your professor, try to speak out loud to yourself. This is not a sign of insanity, as it may seem at first glance, but a widespread practice of increasing the level of oratory.

As soon as you have reached the point where you are pleased with yourself, you can proceed to a "performance" before other people: tell your friends or family what you talked with yourself about (if, of course, they want to listen to it, do not force them to do it). This will be of help to your further success.

Practice on Old Tests and Exercises

Wherever possible try to find examples of questions related to the studied topic. Imagine that you are passing an exam already and test your knowledge on particular examples. Do this task without any materials beside you. This way you will not confuse "I know that" with "I can read the answer in the textbook." Talking about exercises, vary them to the maximum in order not to learn them carelessly. The most important thing on an exam is your reasoning and ability to solve problems, not your ability to memorize an answer.

However, do not get carried away here. A few interesting studies were conducted in different parts of the world with respondents who were anticipating an important event, the outcome of which was very important to them. The studies showed that in this case, people considered such event as something abstract. So, if for potential success it was necessary to learn as much facts as possible, then more than 80% of the respondents went to extremes and cluttered their minds with much more excessive amount of data than was necessary for success.

What happened in the end? Of course, it is necessary to take into account the factor of chance, despite contradictory opinions about it. However, the fact remains that people did not achieve what they wanted and the majority remained unsatisfied with their performance or result. In their opinion, things could have turned better. But extra concepts blocked their thoughts and did not allow to do their best.

We are sure that you do not need it. The possibilities of memory are not unlimited, or at least not completely studied. The brain functions in a mode that allows it to consistently work and rest, so too many facts will cause confusion and chaos in this system. This will lead to an even more serious failure, as a result of which we will lose control over what is happening.

Anticipate the Questions of Your Final Test

Try to imagine the questions you might be asked: they are all related to materials and topics you have been learning for the whole term, and they are not created in order to annoy you. Identify important parts and topics, and then try to formulate questions as if you were in the teacher's shoes.

Warning: do not go too far! And if you have a list of topics for writing that are supposed to be assigned on an exam, you can ask writers from essaytwist.com help you present one of them.

Consider the Time You Will Have

One of the classic pitfalls is the lack of time. To avoid this trap, at the beginning of the exam review all the questions (except for multiple-choice tasks) and calculate the time you have for each of them (depending on their length and complexity or the points awarded for them). Look at your watch regularly, so you do not fail and track time for each question, as well as for the final check.

If you do not know something, then move to the next question. You will come back to the tasks that are problematic for you later. The main goal is to get the maximum of points.

Do Not Worry After the Exam: What Is Done Is Behind You

Positive Thinking

It is very common to have a negative impression at the end of an exam, to doubt yourself. Unfortunately, the exam is behind you, and you cannot change anything. So, it is essential to realize that impressions are often negative, but they do not always reveal the reality. Do not lose your concentration and focus on the potential outcome by repeating that your preparation has been effective and that you will succeed.

Positive thinking can be a very good thing that will get you through this tough time. We wish you exams without worries and good results!
